Travel Considerations? Include vaccinations in your pre-travel plans
Vacations are a great way to recharge your batteries and see the world – but not if you’re sick. Be sure to protect yourself from potential illness by getting vaccinated before you go.
See a doctor, nurse or healthcare provider two to three months before you’re due to travel. This will provide an opportunity to:
- review your vaccination history
- make sure you’re up-to-date with your provincial vaccination program
- assess your vaccination needs based on where you plan to travel, how long you'll be there for and what you plan to do while there.
Do I have to pay for these vaccinations?
Provincial governments make certain vaccines available, free of charge, through provincial health plans. These typically cover childhood inoculations for illnesses such as diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, measles, mumps and rubella.
Many of the common travel vaccines, like hepatitis, rabies and yellow fever, must be paid for out-of-pocket by the patient. If you have health insurance, some of these vaccines may be covered.
